As its name suggests, the Jaw Titan's biggest assets are its overpowered mandibles. This entity can easily rip through any material, including the War Hammer Titan's crystal cocoon. As the smallest of the Nine, the Jaw Titan is capable of dodging high-velocity attacks before countering its enemies.
Not much is known about the War Hammer Titan, as it only appears much later in the story. This entity has been in the Tybur family for several generations, though none of them used its ability before the Raid on Liberio. Eren's attack leaves Lara Tybur no choice but to retaliate by turning into the War Hammer Titan and engaging the Attack Titan in a duel.
Eldian Warrior Reiner Braun was selected to inherit the Armored Titan. This Titan is covered with hardened armor-like skin that protects vital areas, especially the heavily fortified nape. It can also increase hardness with sheer willpower, and send its life force to different parts of its body to preserve its functionality during brutal attacks.
The Female Titan also has an unusual ability. Like the Founding Titan, the Female Titan can attract Titans to her location, but she doesn't control them. When they arrive, the Pure Titan will devour the Female Titan's body. Annie Leonhart uses this technique to escape from the scouts. The Female Titan also can harden different parts of its body, allowing for strategical attacks, or protecting the nape of the neck.
The last two Titans are the Beast Titan and the Attack Titan. The Beast Titan is close in power to the Founding Titan to control and create new titans. Zeke Jaeger, the current holder of the Beast Titan, does this throughout the show. Zeke Jaeger's Beast Titan also shows hardening and powerful throws. Something Zeke uses when attacking the scouts with a ball of rocks that scatter over the field.
The story of Attack on Titan centers on a civilization inside three circular walls. According to the knowledge propagated locally, it is the last surviving vestige of human civilization. Its inhabitants, known as Eldians, have been led to believe that over one hundred years ago, humanity was driven to the brink of extinction after the emergence of humanoid giants called Titans, who attack and eat humans on sight. The last remnants of humanity retreated behind three concentric walls and enjoyed roughly a century of peace. Within the walls, the thought of venturing outside is strongly frowned upon and discouraged. To combat Titans, the country's military employs Vertical Maneuvering Equipment (VME), also called Omni-Directional Maneuvering Gear (ODM Gear): a set of waist-mounted grappling hooks and gas-powered propulsion enabling immense mobility in three dimensions. Swords made of ultrahard steel are used in conjunction with the gear, and eventually rocket launcher-like weapons called Thunder Spears are also developed.
Eren Yeager is a boy who lives in the town of Shiganshina, located on the outermost of three circular walls protecting their inhabitants from Titans. In the year 845, the first wall (Wall Maria) is breached by two new types of Titans, the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan. During the incident, Eren's mother is eaten by a Smiling Titan while Eren escapes. He swears revenge on all Titans and enlists in the military along with his childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert. Five years after Shiganshina's fall, the Colossal Titan attacks the city of Trost, located on the second innermost wall (Wall Rose). Eren helps to successfully defend the city after he discovers a mysterious ability to turn himself into a sentient Attack Titan. Additionally, he regains memories of his father giving him this ability shortly after the fall of Wall Maria, and telling him that the truth about their world can be found in their basement in Shiganshina. These events draw the attention of the Survey Corps and their commander, Erwin Smith, who intend to use his power to reclaim Wall Maria and reach the Yeagers' basement. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are transferred to the Special Operations Squad, under the care of Levi Ackerman and Hange Zoë.
During an expedition into the forest between the walls, Eren and his companions encounter a sentient Female Titan, whom they later expose as their fellow military comrade Annie Leonhart. With help from his friends, Eren fights and defeats Annie, who encases herself in crystal and is put in custody. After the fight, it is discovered that there are Titans lying dormant within the walls (known as Wall Titans). Shortly thereafter, Pure Titans mysteriously appear within Wall Rose with no evidence of how they got in, accompanied by the sentient Beast Titan. Ymir, one of the new Survey Corps graduates, reveals that she can also transform into the sentient Jaw Titan, while Ymir's close friend Krista Lenz reveals herself as Historia Reiss, a member of the royal family. Two other members of the Survey Corps, Reiner Braun and Bertholt Hoover, reveal themselves as the Armored and Colossal Titan respectively. They attempt to kidnap Eren and Ymir, but fail. In the ensuing battle, Eren discovers another power within himself called "the Coordinate", that allows him to control other Titans, which he uses to kill the Smiling Titan and send a horde of Pure Titans to attack Reiner and Bertholt. This forces the two to escape, whereupon Ymir willingly flees with them, offering herself as sacrifice to prevent Historia from being targeted by the enemy. In the aftermath of these events, it is determined that the Pure Titans who suddenly appeared within Wall Rose were the inhabitants of various villages within Wall Rose, who had in some way been transformed into Titans. This leads the characters to the conclusion that all Pure Titans are, in fact, transformed human beings.
The conclusive part 3 of Attack on Titan's final season is slated for 2023, with the alliance and Eren's final battle coming to an inevitable close. The battle will see all nine of the titans present in some form or other.
Eren, Armin, Falco, Reiner, Annie, and Pieck now are essentially the only active holders of the nine due to how many Eren has consumed, but fans have gotten to see each member of the nine at some point in the series. There's something special about each of the nine titans, but some outclass the other in terms of power.
While the Armored Titan does have its signature armor, nearly every other member of the nine has showcased a hardening ability in some form. This leaves the Armored feeling plain compared to the others with more unique special abilities. From their many battles, it's fairly easy to conclude Reiner's Armored and Eren's Attack titan have similar combat abilities.
The Attack Titan is an example of a titan who isn't nearly as strong without the right titan shifter at the right time. Eren is a brilliant shonen protagonist and was born at the perfect time to use the Attack Titan's special ability to its fullest. Although, ironically, the Attack Titan made Eren arguably the least free character in the story by the end.
Like the Attack Titan, much of the current Beast Titan's power came from its host rather than the titan itself. Zeke, bearer of royal blood, can access the founding titan and transform Eldians with his spinal fluid into pure titans. Clearly, much of the beast's power correlates with the user, as its previous holder Tom Ksaver almost never went to war.
Annie's female titan was powerful enough to soundly defeat Eren's Attack Titan in the first season, and for obvious reasons. The Female Titan is the ultimate "jack of all trades" titan, doing everything the nine do at a fairly high level. The ability to call pure titans to her is the icing on the cake for the most versatile titan.
The Warhammer Titan didn't get much screen time, but its ability to create structures makes it one of the most powerful titans by far. Eren's battle against the Warhammer ended in a sound defeat on his part against an opponent far less battle-tested than he was. This is a testament to how truly powerful the Titan was.
With no combat gear and Wall Rose breached, the 104th scrambles to evacuate the villages in the Titans' path. On their way to the safety of Wall Sheena, they decide to spend the night in Utgart Castle. But their sanctuary becomes a slaughterhouse when they discover that, for some reason, these Titans attack at night!
The people cheer on Commander Erwin and Captain Levi as they go beyond the gates. The scouts are entrusted with exploring the outside world for expansion and knowledge. After gaining a few resources, they have been more successful recently, but casualties still amount to 30 percent during missions. This shows the gap between titans and humans.
As with many action-based anime shows, this series is pretty light on character development but tries to make up for it with lots of plot and fighting. While the main characters do experience some personal growth over the length of the show, it's overshadowed by the bloody battles they engage in. Action sequences employ some impressively realistic animation of high-wire acrobatics that allow military forces to scale buildings and meet the titanic Titans, which is fun to watch. But while the plot and story stand out against similar fare, the constant death and dismemberment make the show hard to justify for a tween and younger teen audience. This one is for action and horror fans only, with little in the way of crossover appeal.
Much like the Romero Zombies of modern day horror fiction, Pure Titans were hinted to be an offshoot of the human race now cursed to forever devour the rest of humanity. Later chapters of the series reveal that their nature is almost the same as that of Intelligent Titans (or 'Titan Shifters'), albeit their human bodies within their titan's nape are fully assimilated.
Titans are creatures closely resembling human beings, but with various deformities, ranging from either over/under-sized heads and limbs, massively fat stomachs, or even skeletal frames. As the species' name would imply, titans are enormous. All titans keep their eyes constantly opened, their mouths possess lots of molar teeth used to grind human flesh. Titans possess no visible reproductive organs. Each titan possesses unique facial features and hair style, much like any individual person. 781b155fdc
